Esdraelon

Esdraelon
The plain west of the Jordan which divided Galilee from Samaria.
Esdraelon was the Greek name for Jezreel though strictly it was the marshy area adjacent to the more fertile Jezreel. Many conflicts were fought in the area; Deborah against Sisera (Judg. 4), Saul against the Philistines (1 Sam. 29:1), and Josiah against the Egyptians (2 Kgs. 23:30); in modern times (1917) the British against the Turks. The name does not appear in the Hebrew OT but is used in the LXX at Judith 1:8Armageddon’ (REB) of Rev. 16:1 is a mountain on the plain of Esdraelon.
